You can Click on the presenter's name to link to their page or organization.
Sherri Edmonds - Hooked rugs can be works of art, or functional floor rugs. Sherri gave you an overview of the basics and these rugs as art. You can click on her name for information about RUSTIC RUGS, which is where Sherri learned this art, and where you can take classes to learn more about techniques and materials. Yak'n'Yarn also carries the supplies.
Debbie Taylor - Debbie demonstrated how to create basic cotton cord baskets using cotton cord. More people attended her session than there were handouts, so her handout has been reworked to also include the information and tips that she gave in the presentation.
Kathy Pflaum - Kathy has been a presenter at each of the workshops we have had, and has presented a different topic each time. This year she showed you how to make a fabric block, and there was time to make two of them. Kathy created boards that showed the steps for making each one, which were photographed and reworked as a handout.
Kathy's work continues to be shown in galleries around Topeka. She was just named to the Board of Directors for the NOTO Arts District, where she has actively worked to develop and promote this arts district.
Kathy will also be the featured artist for the month of March at the Topeka Art Guild Gallery in Fairlawn Plaza.
Ann Marshall - Ann gave two different hands-on sessions. During the session she demonstrated felt embroidery that is used for making decorative penny quilts and candle mats.
During the second session, she shared some fiber crafts that are useful for working with children. You can contact Ann for more information on any of these crafts.
Melanie Hutchison - Melanie's experience incudes teaching various fabric arts to women in India. She demonstrated how to felt with silk, using a machine to do this. Her presentation included good dialog about women's issues in India while she was demonstrating. Melanie is new to our area, but you will be seeing more of her work in galleries such as The Topeka Art Guild.
Kris Luber - Kris shared thoughts on hymns, sacred songs, and psalms that often provide the inspiration behind her fabric landscape art. She posts a song each day on her personal facebook page.
There were more people who wanted to learn how she makes the fabric landscape arts than there were handouts, so you can find that information below.
Kris's work continues to be shown and for sale in Leaping Llamas, Topeka Art Guild, and the Kansas Capitol Store in the Capitol's visitor's center.
The refreshment break had three different kinds of homemade sheet cakes.
Many of you requested the recipes, so they are given here for you to print.
During the break information was given about resources at the Topeka & Shawnee County Public Library. This link will take you to the Creativebug page that has many resources you can access with your library card. They also have a number of arts/crafts kits in the "Arts and Crafts Neighborhood" (in the 700's section of the nonfiction) that can also be checked out just as you check out other materials.
